They're not quite wild horses, but Ōpōtiki has a problem with less-than-tame horses roaming freely in and around the town.
Earlier this year, the District Council mooted banning horses from the town centre altogether; but after community pushback, the council worked with horse owners to come up with a management plan.
Now, horses will need to be fenced, identified, photographed, and their details shared with the council.
Ones that don't meet the Council's new rules will be rounded up and taken away.
Ōpōtiki mayor Lyn Riesterer spoke to Morning Report.
