The price of tomatoes has doubled over the past year.
Statistics New Zealand says the summer staples cost $3.30/kg in December 2020, but by the end of last year, they were $6.61/kg.
Grocery foods such as eggs, milk and yoghurt, have also become more expensive.
The spike in tomato prices has contributed to the biggest jump in overall food prices in a decade.
Tomatoes New Zealand general manager Helen Barnes told Sarah Robson what was driving up prices.
