The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 is predicted to peak at 1000 in the next few weeks, but 2000 is possible.
There were 373 people with Covid-19 in hospitals yesterday and the system was already under strain with elective operations cut and some facilities temporarily closed to free up staff.
