Emergency ambulance services around the country have recorded their highest-ever number of 111 calls this past weekend.
On Sunday alone, St John and Wellington Free Ambulance recorded 2322 calls for help in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.
Making matters worse, many staff are off ill. Dr Tony Smith, the clinical director of St John, spoke to Susie Ferguson.
