Ukraine is bracing for a major attack on the southern port city of Odesa, on the Black Sea coast.
The cosmopolitan harbour is seen as a strategic asset for both Ukraine and Russia - a seizure of the city could cut off Ukraine from overseas trade and aid.
Russian troops have already captured nearby port cities, and Russian navy ships have been spotted close to Ukranian territorial waters.
