The lawyer for the Pike River families is hopeful the police have been able to gather enough evidence to proceed with a prosecution.
The police this week notified the families of the 29 mine victims that images taken down a re-drilled borehole had shown further evidence of human remains.
The police said they had captured high quality images during their drilling operation, which has now ended, and that would feed into their ongoing criminal investigation.
The families' lawyer is Nigel Hampton QC, he spoke to Corin Dann.
