The search for the last person missing after a fishing charter boat sank near North Cape on Sunday is continuing this morning.

Five people survived and were rescued by helicopter, four people died and have been recovered from the water.

The charter boat "Enchanter" was based in Mangonui in the far north and was on a five-day trip to Three Kings Islands.

Skipper Lance Goodhew survived, but 43-year-old father of three, Te Awamutu builder Mark Sanders, was one of the men who did not make it.

His father, Graeme Sanders, told RNZ reporter Jean Edwards, his son was a talented sportsman and mad keen fisherman.
