Covid-19: NZ will never go back to wide surveillance testing - expert

A leader in the medical laboratory sector says New Zealand will never go back to widespread surveillance testing for Covid-19.

Some hospital labs were overrun in late February by the rapidly rising demand for PCR test results.

Rapid Antigen Tests, or RATs, have taken over as the main testing method, but many worry about how accurate they are, and whether a PCR test is preferable.

Institute of Medical Laboratory Services president Terry Taylor spoke to Susie Ferguson.
