From Morning Report, 8:54 am on 13 April 2022

A new political alliance against deep-sea mining in the Pacific kicks off today.

Members of the alliance share concerns about corporations and governments exploiting the ocean floor for minerals. The move coincides with the first day of the 7th Our Ocean Conference in Palau.

The 500 attending include MPs from Aotearoa, Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, Guam, Fiji, French Polynesia, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Palau.

RNZ Pacific's Moera Tuilaepa spoke to Susie Ferguson from Palau.
