A resthome operator in the North Island is warning the sector is starting to collapse because of what it calls a near-catastrophic staffing crisis.
In Wellington and the Hutt Valley, one provider says there's barely a bed available, and people who need acute care are being moved between rest homes or into public hospitals.
Enliven is a not-for-profit service that runs 14 resthomes as well as hospital and dementia care units.
