The Government has unveiled an ambitious plan to cut the rapidly rising number of people waiting for non-urgent surgery in public hospitals.
Health Minister Andrew Little has set up a taskforce to help hospitals take whatever short-term measures they can to reduce waiting times, and will be responsible for delivering a national plan by September.
The taskforce will be led by Counties Manukau chief medical officer and colorectal surgeon Andrew Connolly.
He spoke to Corin Dann.
