There are now more patients than beds at Christchurch Hospital, with health bosses preparing for that to get worse heading into winter.
Planned care, including some major surgeries, have been postponed due to an influx of sick people and hundreds of staff struck by Covid-19.
Canterbury DHB says the need for resourced beds is beyond capacity at 112 percent.
