New data on 2 billion stars available from GAIA telescope

From Morning Report, 6:20 am on 20 June 2022

Space scientists have a new treasure trove of data to download about almost two billion stars.

The European Space Agency's GAIA telescope observes our galaxy, the Milky Way, some 1.5 million kilometres away from Earth at lagrange point two.

Its mission is to create the most accurate and complete multi-dimensional map of the Milky Way.

The latest data includes new information including what the galaxy is made of, the motion of the stars, and it has also observed so-called starquakes.
