Middlemore Hospital is dealing with four times the number of people presenting with the flu this winter, compared to pre-pandemic in 2019.
Clinical director Vanessa Thornton told Morning Report it has been a very busy time in the last four weeks due to winter illnesses.
Dr Thornton says, with Covid-19, there have been very few presentations of people with flu in the last two years because the border was closed.
