Occupiers of potentially quake prone buildings are being told that scoring a low safety rating shouldn't necessarily mean they have to evacuate the building.
Officials have fast-tracked the release of new guidance for building users due to concerns from occupants, particularly in Wellington.
Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment building performance and engineering team manager Dave Gittings said occupiers should also be looking at the relative risk of being in a building.
