Wild weather has dumped deep snow in and around Tekapo, closing roads and cutting off the community.
Pictures of the lakeside town show a thick white blanket covering roads, roofs and cars, Harry Railton works on a farm in the area and says he hasn't seen snow like it in years.
He spoke to Corin Dann.
