A young woman who was homeless on and off for five years finds it hard to understand opposition to social housing.
State housing agency Kāinga Ora paused construction at an Auckland social housing complex in Millwater, on the Hibiscus Coast, after neighbourhood complaints it would "change the character" of the area.
*Karen - not her real name - recently moved into a house run by Kāinga Ora in collaboration with Lifewise and Airdale Trust, after years of living rough in the city, including periods of homelessness and drug addiction.
She told reporter Rayssa Almeida winter was always really tough.
