The Covid-19 pandemic has worsened the long-standing issue of equal pay, with Pasifika workers getting less than they used to compared to their Pakeha counterparts.
AUT's Work Research Institute looked at ethnic disparities in terms of job-entry wages after a period of non-employment, also known as "wage scarring", and limited wage progression for those who are employed.
The lead researcher, Dr Alexander Plum, says the pandemic had amplifed the disparities, particularly among young Pasifika women.
He spoke with Corin Dann.
