Some Green Party members believe James Shaw is failing to push hard enough to save the planet, and is too conservative.
Mr Shaw failed to get the backing of 75% of voting delegates to stay in the role at the party's general meeting on Saturday.
But he has confirmed to Morning Report that he will stand to remain co-leader.
