Emergency minister tours flood-hit Marlborough

From Morning Report, 8:27 am on 23 August 2022

Officials across the top of the South Island remain on high alert, with more rain on the way for the region's already sodden grounds.

The state of emergency in Nelson has been extended until Wednesday next week to ensure ongoing support.

At least 15 homes have been red-stickered and considered unlivable for now, with the number expected to go even higher as inspections continue.

The full scale of the devastation in Marlborough is still not clear, with road access to some communities yet to be restored.

State Highways 6 and 63 linking Blenheim to Nelson are likely to be closed for some time after severe damage from last week's floods.

Emergency management minister Kieran McAnulty has visited the Marlborough region, he spoke to Corin Dann.
