The New Zealand soldier killed in Ukraine has been named.
He was Dominic Abelen from the Royal NZ Infantry Regiment's 2/1Battalion based in Burnham and was fighting in Ukraine while on leave without pay.
RNZ understands he was shot in the chest and killed while attacking a Russian trenchline in the east of the country. People who knew him say he was highly thought of in his corp and as a fighter in Ukraine.
Aaron Wood is a former soldier and co- founder of No Duff - a volunteer Veterans group providing immediate welfare assistance to past and present members of the NZD.
