Dilworth abuse survivors allowed to apply for financial redress

From Morning Report, 7:55 am on 30 August 2022

Survivors of sexual abuse at Dilworth School can now apply for financial redress from the school.

The Auckland boarding school says any survivor of abuse committed by a Dilworth representative or student, as well as families of deceased survivors, have got three years to apply confidentially for compensation.

High Court Judge Dame Judith Potter has been appointed chair of a three-person independent redress programme panel which can award maximum financial redress of $200,000, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Eleven men linked to the Anglican boys' school have been charged over historical assault, totalling over 50 separate charges.

A survivor of abuse at Dilworth School, who RNZ agreed not to name, spoke to Māni Dunlop.
