Food prices have increased by 8.3 percent over the past 12 months, the largest year on year rise since 2009.
The figures from Stats NZ show grocery prices were up 8.7 percent, while fruit and vegetable prices increased by a whopping 15 percent.
RNZ asked to talk to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, David Clark, but he didn't respond.
