An organic polymer battery is set to become part of New Zealand dairy cooperative Fonterra's operation - the world's first commercial use of such a battery.
Fonterra has partnered with PolyJoule, an offshoot of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to implement the tech at its Waitoa UHT plant, and hopes that it will provide a backup in case of power glitches which can be costly and ruin milk product.
Fonterra's chief operating officer Fraser Whineray spoke to Corin Dann.
