Wellington's new children's hospital is opened on Friday with a blessing at dawn.
The hospital, called Te Wao Nui, meaning "the great forest", will then close for two weeks for deep cleaning before accepting patients from October 17.
Built next to Wellington Hospital in Newtown, it will enable child health services from across the region to be brought under one roof.
