Union still wants nurses to turn down extra shifts

From Morning Report, 8:13 am on 30 September 2022

The Nurses Organisation, is calling on its 35,000 members who work in hospitals to turn down requests to work extra shifts next week because of a dispute over how they are compensated for them.

Chief executive Paul Goulter says nurses are still propping up the health system even though winter is open.

Whangārei emergency nurse and union delegate Rachel Thorn said Te Whatu Ora was ignoring the fact nurses were still going above and beyond.

Thorn spoke to Guyon Espiner.

Te Whatu Ora declined to speak on Morning Report today. It's chief executive Margie Apa told a virtual hui for health stakeholders yesterday she's disappointed the union is encouraging the action.
