Forecaster on October's polar blast

The country has well and truly moved into a second surge of cold air in an unusual spring cold snap.

Snow has fallen in some areas of the South Island and some coastal areas have received a dusting as well.

Freezing southerlies are making air temperatures feel below zero in Christchurch and Wellington.

NIWA meteorologist Chris Brandolino spoke to Susie Ferguson.
