Education Ministry planning to fund 350 fewer teachers

From Morning Report, 7:50 am on 6 October 2022

The Education Ministry is planning to fund 350 fewer teachers next year as a result of falling student numbers.

The Ministry has based its funding on forecast student enrolments for 2023, and much of the decline will be in primary and intermediate schools.

While it's a small chunk of the 45,000 teaching workforce, Principals Federation president Cherie Taylor-Patel says the move comes despite pleas to rethink the formula used to determine funding.
