The man responsible for the US' deadliest high school shooting has avoided the death penalty.
Nikolas Cruz, armed with an AR-15 style assault rifle, killed 17 people at Florida's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in a six-minute rampage on Valentine's Day of 2018.
After nearly eight hours of deliberations following a 60-day trial, the jury recommended he be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
