People say they don't feel safe in parts of central Christchurch, where brawls, assaults and theft have become commonplace.
An 18-year-old appeared in the district court yesterday facing an assault charge after a man was left in a critical condition in a popular shopping spot on Cashel Street.
Police say they will soon step up patrols.
