A defence lawyer says police use of a private American evidence storage system is derailing criminal trials.
Police store video footage from tasers, and family harm interviews, with the US corporation Axon on computer servers in Australia.
They are looking at expanding that to many more video interviews and crime scene footage Wellington barrister Cathie Sheat says they need to think again because the Axon system is bad for justice.
The police say they are continuing to look at options to replace old interview recording technology
They say they have not audited how they use Axon, and have no plan to.
