National Party justice spokesperson Paul Goldsmith says he doesn't believe the voting age in New Zealand should be lowered.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court declared the voting age of 18 inconsistent with the Bill of Rights act.
Parliament will debate legislation proposing to lower it to 16 - which would need a super majority of 75-percent to pass.
However, Goldsmith says 18 as the age is appropriate and works well.
Justice Minister Kiri Allan told Morning Report that a formal response is required by parliament by dint of recently passed legislation.
She says it was important to hear from New Zealanders on the issue.
