Scientists have been stunned to find the eruption of the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai volcano in January is the largest in recorded history.
The National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research led an investigation into the eruption, and found 10 cubic kilometres, or two-point-six million Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of seafloor was displaced by the eruption.
It emitted the biggest atmospheric explosion recorded in more than 100 years.
