Sandringham business association reeling from dairy stabbing

From Morning Report, 7:08 am on 25 November 2022

Police are yet to explain why the Auckland dairy at the centre of a fatal stabbing didn't get the security upgrades it repeatedly asked for.

A robber entered the Rose Cottage Dairy in Sandringham on Wednesday, taking off with the cash till, and stabbing the worker when confronted outside.

Rose Cottage Dairy had reportedly been turned down twice for a fog cannon, despite a 15-year history of violence and theft. A subsidy for fog cannons has been available since 2017.

Police Minister Chris Hipkins believes the business did qualify for funding and is demanding answers.

Sandringham Business Association chairperson Jithin Chittibomma says the business community is too upset to discuss a security plan moving forward, but they are hoping to meet next week.
