Teachers say they do not have enough time to give students quality relationship and sexual health education but believe it's increasingly necessary.
Many of the nearly 200 surveyed by Canterbury University, Family Planning and Health Education Association say the subject is often not prioritised or valued by senior staff.
Almost half indicated their Year 9 students received fewer than 10 hours per year, well short of the Ministry's recommended 12 to 15 hours.
