Waikato River Authority on Auckland plans to take more water

From Morning Report, 8:38 am on 12 December 2022

Auckland's water management body is looking to bring forward plans to take more water out of the Waikato River, due to 'forever' chemicals contaminating its supply.

Internal Watercare documents reveal PFAS chemicals have forced a shutdown at the Onehunga treatment plant.

Those chemicals, found in things like food packaging, cosmetics and carpets, are dubbed 'forever chemicals' because they don't break down in the environment.
