A champion New Zealand boxer has revealed for the first time he is living with dementia pugilistica - a variant of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, brought on by repeated concussions.
Sam Rapira, a retired Taranaki fighter, says a grant to supply fitted mouth guards to fighters at his gym has prompted him to urge people taking part in combat sports to use the best protective equipment available.
