The National Party says the government's decision to add migrant nurses to the direct pathway to residence is welcome, but should have happened a year ago.
Nurses, specialist doctors and midwives will all have immediate access to the straight-to-residence pathway with the changes announced yesterday.
National Party immigration spokesperson Erica Stanford says the government has spent months dithering over immigration settings.
