Corrections admits missed opportunities to deradicalise Ahamed Samsudeen

From Morning Report, 7:16 am on 15 December 2022

The Department of Corrections has admitted it missed opportunities to de-radicalise the man responsible for stabbing eight people in a supermarket last year.

Ahamed Samsudeen was shot fatally by police after the stabbing frenzy, which took place shortly after his release from prison.

A review into police and corrections' management of Samsudeen found he was locked up on remand for too long, and that his religious and cultural needs weren't met.

The Department of Corrections says it has since poured resources into the departments dealing with people at risk of violent extremism.
