Single Auckland councillor votes against budget

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 16 December 2022

Auckland councillors voted to put its budget forward for consultation yesterday in a contentious meeting.

Major cuts to transport and community funding were among the main points of debate.

Wayne Brown's proposal to sell airport shares also caused carnage, with a suggestion that the airport's shares would soon be decreasing in value forcing it's sharemarket trading to halt temporarily.

But by the end of the day the budget passed twenty votes to one

Councillor Josephine Bartley was the one vote against, and she spoke to Corin Dann.

Mayor Wayne Brown, and deputy mayor Desley Simpson, declined Morning Report's requests for an interview.
