Missing Phillips children likely anxious - psychologist

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 18 January 2023

Three children who've been missing for a year with their father who's known to go bush are likely to be feeling anxious about being isolated from other family members for so long.

Tom Phillips and his children were officially reported missing on January 18 last year after Mr Phillips failed to reappear in the Te Kuiti District Court in relation to their first disappearance the previous September, which had sparked an extensive three-week search in Marokopa.

The police say his disappearance breaches a parenting order. The children are aged six, eight and nine.

The police say they are continually following up leads on the family's whereabouts and that it's possible Phillips has found shelter and is being supported by other people.

Clinical psychologist Dougal Sutherland told our reporter Amy Williams much of how the children are feeling will come down to how their father is coping.
