The Waitangi commemorations brought back the crowds - a stark contrast to last year when visitors were asked to stay away as Omicron broke out.
But as Sam Olley reports business owners in Paihia and Waitangi were not as busy as they'd hoped - putting it down to poor forecasts and closures State Highway 1 closures after storm damage.
