Metservice is warning a tropical cyclone could form in the Pacific with potential to hit New Zealand within the next week.
It's not clear yet whether the cyclone will form or where it will track - but it's tough timing for regions that are still recovering from extreme rain.
Metservice meteorologist John Law spoke to Guyon Espiner.
