The Defence Force now has 700 people helping with the recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle, up from 200 on Tuesday night.
A fleet of NH90 helicopters have been assessing damage, helping with rescue efforts, and distributing aid to cut off communities.
Squadron leader Chris Ross was flying in Hawke's Bay on Wednesday.
