A Hawkes Bay woman fears someone in her rural community will end up being shot if police don't do something about the people targeting empty flood damaged homes.
The woman, who RNZ has agreed not to name, says Puketapu locals feel afraid and abandoned and she rejects police assertions there's been no spike in dishonesty crimes.
She told our Political Editor Jane Patterson that on Wednesday afternoon a neighbour spotted a group of people trying to get into her house.
A Pakowhai resident is also calling for more police patrols in her area after two of her flood-damaged cars were broken into.
Lynley says people there are worried about looting and she's angry politicians and the police are downplaying the problem.
The police declined to be interviewed on Morning Report.
