Another 18-year-old is in hospital with meningococcal, the second in less than 24 hours and the fourth case in Christchurch so far this year.
On Wednesday a fellow 18 year old university student had contracted the disease.
The Meningitis Foundation says that this could have been avioded if Pharmac and Te Whatu Ora moved more quickly to roll out the vaccine to young people living in close quarters like university halls.
Funding for the jab only just came available this month.
