A group of Aucklanders want to knock mayor Wayne Brown's proposed budget out of contention.
Faced with a nearly $300 million funding gap, the mayor has proposed cutting services and selling off airport shares, all the while increasing rates by 4.66 percent on average, and borrowing up to $75 million dollars.
Consultation is open until 28 March.
But a new group - called 'A Better Budget for Auckland' - has formed in opposition - and says its budget could maintain community and service funding, retain assets, and borrow more - without hitting the debt-to-income cap.
Group member India Logan-Riley spoke to Corin Dann.
