Five thousand New Zealand nurses have registered to work in Australia since August, adding to fears about the massive shortage here.
Many are taking up short term contracts where they can earn up to $8500 a week.
Te Whatu Ora says it can't afford to lose any nurses, with the current shortfall a key factor in overflowing EDs and long waits for surgery.
