NIWA is keeping a close eye on the weather in the wake of severe thunderstorms and tornados yesterday which wrought havoc in parts of East Auckland and the Upper Moutere in the Nelson district.
Meteorologist Chris Brandolino warns a second round of thunderstorms today could bring significant rain to the South Island west coast, as well as Northland, Auckland and Coromandel where there could be further heavy rain this afternoon.
Heavy rain fell or was forcast to fall overnight Wellington. Nelson, Marlborough, Taranaki, Westland and Buller.
So what else is in the forecast and what can we look forward to for the school holidays.
