Residents of the Auckland suburb of Blockhouse Bay say they feel defeated by Kāinga Ora's decision not to reserve any housing in a new development for retired people.
That's despite the fact some of the land was donated to Auckland Council in the 1970's specifically to house the elderly.
At a heated meeting last night, locals confronted Kāinga Ora, and said it has a moral obligation to older residents.
Reporter Rayssa Almeida was there.
In a statement on 13 April, Kāinga Ora said it had " held three community drop-in sessions in the Blockhouse Bay area since the end of last year so residents could learn more about the plans for the site and have an opportunity to talk with staff. More than 100 people have engaged in those sessions.’’
